Spring Tree Identities
I asked you yesterday to take a guess at the identity of these trees. Although these trees are common in the Bluegrass, it can be very difficult to identify a tree from a single close-up of a flower or other part. Here they are:
A. Eastern redbud, Cercis canadensis
B. Fringetree, Chionanthus virginicus
C. Carolina silvrbell, Halesia carolina
D. American sycamore, Platanus occidentalis
E. Northern red oak, Quercus rubra
F. Black locust, Robinia pseudoacacia
G. Blackhaw, Viburnum prunifolium
H. Kingnut, Carya laciniosa

I got more than I would have thought. My answers: A. redbud B. fringetree C. silverbell D. no clue E. red maple F. locust of some kind G. viburnum of some kind. H. no clue.
See, I am learning!
